- Refine
the thrust of this program
- Connect
homeless children and their families to services and programs quickly
so that we can be responsive to school access and success
- Coordinate
a network of local and social services agencies to assure assistance
with health issues, such as immunization and school meals programs

Provide connections to basic skills programs and employment for parents

Implement parent education and training programs in health, economics,
and basic skills raining for educators that includes homeless sensitivity
and services

Provide professional developement in teaching reading and math

Review and act to remove policies thay may act as barriers to the enrollment
of homeless children and youth

Coordinate existing programs for children that include Head Start, special
education, talented and gifted programs, programs for adolescents, vocational
education, housing agency programs

Be instrumental in implementing tutoring and mentoring year round

Support before, after, and summer school programs

Support developmentally appropriate early childhood education

Continuously evaluate the program as a formative action evaluation to
provide needed services. Start with a needs assessment survey of parents,
teachers, and care providers in all homeless educational facilities

Supply needed educational materials, transportation, and meals to the
level of any school site
- Provide
and assure an advocate or liaison on each site
-
Establish and review criteria for identification of homeless youth
-
Resolve the issue of student records, i.e., entering identification
and assessment, leaving, transferring destinations, and portfolio assessment
to assure educational equity

Hold and facilitate regional and interagency forums and meetings
- Support
the Unified Family concept
-
Provide extraodinary or emergency assistance, as necessary, to enroll
and retain homeless students in school
