Carol Ronning Kapsner, Justice
Carol Ronning Kapsner is a Bismarck native. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota, studied 17th century English literature at Oxford University, and received a Master of Arts degree in English literature from Indiana University. She received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Colorado School of Law in Boulder, Colorado in 1977. From 1977 to 1998, she was in the private practice of law in Bismarck. She is past president of the Burleigh County Bar Association, served on the Board of Governors of the North Dakota Bar Association, and served on the Board of Governors of the North Dakota Trial Lawyers Association. She was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1998 by Governor Edward Schafer. She and her husband, John, have two children, Mical and Caithlin.
