Learn moreThe Curriculum team focuses on supplementing the existing Data Science Curriculum by building DS modules, small explorations into an exciting dataset for a domain. Student teams meet with professors over the course of a semester to build a scalable lesson for a current or future class based on the professor’s research. These modules help teach students, often with no background in coding, the tremendous power that analytics have on a field while also inspiring them to explore further - both in coursework and research.
Team Lead | Alexander Ivanoff I am currently a Junior studying Cognitive Science and Statistics with a focus on Data Science. I started working with DSEP last spring on the Outreach team, and since then have created and led the curriculum team to develop resources and lessons for people all over campus who are interested in Data Science.
Team members worked with Professor Amy Tick in the Rhetoric Department to teach students the important of voter turnout by using multifactor analysis and predictive methods to understand demographic trends. Unlike traditional modules, these team members attended class and hosted office hours where they led analyses in front of the entire class as well as helped students conduct research on the data independently.

I am a third year at Cal and an EECS major. I decided to join the curriculum team because I wanted to be able to help integrate data science lessons into more courses at Cal and allow more students to gain exposure to it.
Team members worked with Professor Jon Marshall and Dag Macleod from the CA Dept. of Justice for DR.Macleod’s upcoming connector course on Criminal Studies. Students worked on compiling and building resources for the course by reviewing course material and helping with data preparation.
