Hmm, I'll have to test this out. I think that if you are shielded before
the mob is engaged, it doesn't count, but my druid always shields me after
I've pulled and it seems to do quite a bit of taunt. But I will check it
out, maybe he is casting something else right away that's doing that. I
know if he casts his dot, there is not a snowball's chance of me taunting
off him.

Damage from a damage shield is unassigned, and as far as I can
tell does not contribute to taunt. If you put a damage shield
on and let an undead beat on you, it'll kill itself and the
corpse will poof.
