There are four types of bard instruments: drum, lute/mandolin, flute and
horn. All can be bought at a bards guild for relatively inexpensive
amounts. The basic instruments have no powers other than increasing the
effects of songs that use them. Right click on a song scroll before you
scribe it to determine which instrument it uses.

For unique bard instruments, a battle drum can be found in Mistmoore. An
earlier post on this list said you run faster with Selo's playing if you
have a battle drum equipped. Other than that I do not know if it confers
any other bonuses. A Lute of the Gypsy Princess can also be found in
Mistmoore but I believe it is a quest item and does not offer any bonuses
either.
