I think what we're saying here is that there are a large number of factors.
I have two machines I play on, both 300Mhz PIIs. My home one has cable, a
kinda lame IDE HD, and a Voodoo 2. My work one, has a 56k frame relay
shared by the company, a nice fast Baracudda SCSI UW hard disk, and a Riva
128. The work machine zones MUCH slower than my home machine. This would
suggest that network speed, and perhaps video play a part. Perhaps with
non-3dfx cards it has to do some conversion pass on the textures or
something. I think we should all go out and buy top of the line Athlon's
today. :)
