Selo's is considered a buff. When the warrior pulled the
guard, he was added to the guard's hate list. From that point
on, anyone who heals or buffs the warrior also gets added to
the guard's hate list. Since you were repeatedly
"buffing" the warrior with Selo until the guard got into melee
range, it probably hated you a lot more than the warrior.
