"25 years ago the concept of a Day Use Mooring program was started as a way to protect the coral reefs in Kona, then Molokini and eventually the State of Hawaii. We have seen first hand over the last 30 years in Kona, how the coral has grown back in areas that used to suffer from anchor damage, but is now protected with a Day Use Mooring. They are easy to use and available to all boaters. Protecting our underwater environment is not only important for our business, but for the future of our children. Malama Kai Foundation has been an integral part of the Day Use Mooring program over the last 20 years helping not only with the arduous permit process, but as a means of fundraising and grant writing. Without Malama Kai Foundation, the reality of protecting Hawaii’s reefs, might still be a dream."
