Mod Ideas/NowWithWings

Mod ideas for UT 2003 – Players have two modes of transport, by foot, or by wing

Description

When I came up with this one (1am this morning while failing to get to sleep) I thought it ought to be called Faeries. When I woke up this morning I decided that maybe Faeries wasn't such a good name after all.

OK, This mod provides players with two ways of getting around. One is the usual run around on foot - no real change there. The other mode of transport however is flight. Each player is equipped with a pair of wings (probably ought to make it a jetpack to be honest - although beating wings would look way more cool) that allows them to fly. The flight mode behaves in the following way.

  • Players have free mouse-look when flying.
  • Jump and crouch are used to gain and lose height.
  • Forwards, backwards, strafe left and strafe right act as thrusters in the direction they are pressing. These thrusters take a while for the player to get up to full speed (bit like having 50% air control really).
  • The flight mode can be activated and de-activated at will.

Interested Scripters

If you are interested in developing this mod for UT2003 then add your name to the list. Once you start development you should indicate that below (and hopefully include a link to a journal page). Before you start development you should also check this section to see if anyone else has started.

Discussion

I must confess, it's very tempting to remove the free mouselook and have the player movement match something similar to that of the UT redeemer, so players can bank, climb, and dive.
