Sir Sargon

Ok so I should've made a page a while ago I bet. I've been using this place for information since... uh, last year I think. I found it while in my quest for knowledge to complete my rework of the Holy Wars mod. That mod, by the way, was completed rather nicely and is available. The next version of it is almost out as well, it promises to be nice. For a taste of V3 go to my UT page, listed below.

Oh and maybe you'd like to know something about me too. Well I'm an engineer, recently out of RPI with a shiny new degree in Mechanical Engineering. I've had a lot of Unreal Tournament experience, lots of UT mapping and coding experience too. My game skills aren't that hot because I just have fun and concentrate on thinking "Hey, how can I make this game better for everyone..." My skills at mapping and coding though are quite good. I have a programming background and my apparent engineering background to help me out. My list of accomplished projects though is rather short partly for lack of good ideas that motivate me and partly because I won't release something to the public unless I trust it won't fail.

Recently I learned a valuable lesson, watch for mispellings in your serverpackages list when debugging. I couldn't see why instagibv3 wasn't working in online tests, it worked but the weapon was invisible. Well, I had mispelled the package name on all (3 or 4) servers I tested on and that was the problem! I'm not sure why serverpackages is a big deal when all pcs have the mutator files already but hey, it is.

Completed Projects

All of the below are available on my [UT site] (currently down).

Levels Created

  • Attrition Fortress

Mods Created

  • The Holy Wars Series: My flagship mod. I began work at V2, picking up for another dead team.
    • Holy Wars V2: Never released, V3 production and complete rewrite began immediately on V2 completion.
    • Holy Wars V3: First production level mod. Was in use for a year with only one minor bug. Vast improvement over the V1 and V2 releases. (note, V1 wasn't mine so that fact, the vast improvement, is nice for my ego.)
    • Holy Wars V4: Current Production Version. If HolyWars was UT, Holywars V3 was UT2003, this is UT2004. That's a very apt analogy. It's juts a polishing version really, but well worth the extra 50kb added to the file size. You may notice, if you look at teh changes to teh testing lab page, My development schedules are rather short. This update, V4, was written in a matter of a few days.

Mutators Created

  • Holy Hand Grenade: Project scrapped. Incorporated into HWV4 as a holy weapon.
  • Instagib V2: leaves the redeemer in the game instead of removing it like normal instagib
  • Instagib V3: Same as above but with beams colored to the players team color. Not just like color instagib though that's coded dumb and I don't like it.
  • Instagib V4: Corrected a bug with the code to remove instagib pickups from play. Fixed a lazily done function, improves framerates noticbly.
  • Low Grav 2: allows use of zonegravity setting in maps
  • No Camping: Damages those that stay still for too long
  • No FOV 2 Prevents the use of FOV in game
  • Say Private: Lets you send a message to a particular player in a game, no one else sees it

Current Projects

These have all been canceled. There's just not enough interest from players (what players?) and I've better things to do.

Mods

  • Holy Wars V4 Update: For some reason theres a bug with multiple halos that can't be repeated unless certain people are playing. I think my halo control system needs a rework, its fuzzy logic (a nice term for thrown together hack job using what should happen, rather then figuring out how to really make it do what we want. That's true too.)

Levels

  • Mount Olympus: ok so it's been going on for a while...
  • Venice Alleyway: Inspired by the movie LXG. It's about 1/2 done

Mutators

  • No Camping V2: allows players to "set as away" and not get damaged or anything by the code or other players, working out possible cheating methods

Comments, Notes, Messages

Sir Sargon: Feel free to say anything you want, I won't attack you... Well, unless you try Holy Wars on my test server.

Tarquin: Hi there! Welcome to Unreal Wiki :)

Sir Sargon: Well thanks, nice to be here. Though I'm still waiting on the huge welcome party... Weirdest thing, just logged in with my pc and it logged in on its own with my old user ID that I lost. So now I've two, and no clue what to do with them. Try to confuse the wiki maybe?

Tarquin: It doesn't matter which id you use. You might want to make sure you're logging in with the same one anyway, just so your preferences carry across.

EntropicLqd: Congrats :)
