It is the responsibility of the Department of Social Services (DSS) to develop and provide social services and improve social conditions for the citizens of Louisiana and rehabilitate persons with disabilities for employment.
The mission of the Department of Social Services is to assist individuals and families in meeting their basic human needs of economic self-support and of self-sufficiency, and in the protection of their physical and emotional well-being, in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations.
In carrying out this mission, DSS is committed to the recognition of basic human needs and civil rights, respect for the integrity of the individual and family, and delivery of services in a fair, equitable and caring manner.
The Department is composed of the Executive Office of the Secretary (OS), which includes Louisiana Rehabilitation Services (LRS); the Office of Management and Finance (OM&F); the Office of Family Support (OFS); and the Office of Community Services (OCS).
