My Learning Plan

Formulate Learning Plan

"Time and attention are your most precious commodity and one of the biggest breakthroughs you can ever have is getting serious about how you spend your time and where you are putting your attention. Racing around like a lunatic or being so busy that you're never present with your family or friends won't make you happy - it'll make you feel disconnected. I want you to take time today and give yourself permission to write down what you want your life to look like. I promise you right now, you won't be writing "I want to be busy."Mel Robbins.

What is your long-term goal and/or career pathway?

  • My long-term goal is to be able to work remotely as a front-end or full-stack web developer.
  • My short-term goal is to freelance for smaller projects and earn while I continue to learn.

A description of your own strengths and limitations in relation to learning

Strengths:

  • I can read pretty quickly and learn/get through content relatively quickly.
  • Discipline > Motivation.
  • I'm good at compartmentalizing things.

Limitations:

  • A mistake I can make is waiting until I feel ready to start.
  • I can spend too much time on things that have less of an impact in terms of long-term goals, so I constantly need to evaluate where my time is best spent, yet also trust that I might not always be right - trust the process.

TURNING LIMITATIONS INTO ASSETS: SOLUTIONS

  1. Approach my problems methodically
  2. Write down What I'm trying to accomplish and Why
  3. Schedule in Fear Setting

5 REASONS YOU SHOULD GO FOR IT - From @untappedwithbriony

  1. There's only one way to find out and it's not going to be in your head
  2. If it's not what you dreamed it to be, you can just realign and go again
  3. You'll never feel 'ready,' confidence comes from taking action
  4. If you're afraid of what you might lose, remember no one can ever take away who you become in the process
  5. The universe supports courageous commitment.

Working through Challenges

  • Doing more research
  • Linking in with a more knowledgeable-other
  • Enrolling in a course to help fill a gap
  • Investing time to learn the basics/foundations so I can build from there.
  • Asking other people for help
  • Take notes, ask questions
  • Create a Plan for how I will tackle the challenges
  • Keep myself accountable by creating an agenda with a due date where I will give myself the time needed to accomplish the goal.
  • Check back on my goal at the end of the week and check in on my progress.

What to do when things might build up and get to me?

  • Before I start the workday, I read fiction or anything interesting while I have breakfast and then enjoy a hot espresso. I find this relaxes me and it's a nice start to the day.
  • It's non-negotiable to get outside (during lockdown) every day. Even if it's just for a walk, I need it. Recently, I'm either doing yoga or I walk or run.
  • I find I've been dreaming of the terminal and solving problems in my sleep, so I am valuing my sleep and downtime!

What skills (non-technical - human skills) would you like to see developed in yourself while at Dev Academy?

  • I'd like to continue to grow my relational self-awareness/EQ and read more books on psychology. i.e., Dabrowski's theory on Positive Disintegration.

Expectations of the facilitation team

  • To be there when I have a problem and to suggest how I can come to solutions.
  • I don't need someone to instantly reply to my messages, just at some point. So far, it's all good!
