The Explore CRC Puerto Rico Conference will take place in Fall 2019 to get more women involved in computing research careers by having research experiences during the summer (REU/Interships). Undergraduate research experiences have been proven to be effective in increasing communication skills, increased retention, development of technical skills, and teamwork. In particular, these experiences are stronger for women in computing who normally lack role models.
We propose to run a Co-located Caribbean Celebration of Women in Computing (CCWiC) together with Explore CRC Puerto Rico. The goal of CCWiC is to prepare 30 computing undergraduate female students at Hispanic-Serving Institutions from the CAHSI Southeast Region to obtain Industry experiences.
The site for the Explore CRC Puerto Rico Conference will be in the Learning Commons of the University of Puerto Rico in Arecibo
