Ghost3021/Rants

Rant1: "OldSkool"

Well, with UEngine3 coming soon, and more and more 'profesional' mod-teams appearing for UT2k4, i can't help but glace back at my monster 10G UnrealTournament folder and wonder: "Why the heck do I find myself playing ONP, SevenB, and Unreal1 over and over again? And then I answer myself; it's because:

  1. They are WAY more fun than RedOrchestra or AlienSwarm...or CarBall,...or any of those 'modernprofesional' mods that keep on appearing for UT2k4...
  2. Graphics. I like the 'sucky' [WetTextures] WAY more than [FluidSurfaceInfo]s; at high res and color they get a never-ending infinate detain, just zoom into a puddle at 1280*1024 32 bit to see what i mean...and the texturing is way...cooler...more 'sci-fi' than UT2k4...
  3. Build. The architecture looks...so...smoooth...so much better than any LM'ed mesh can (lightmapped). Everything was soo....dynamic...it was beautiful just to look at...
  4. Standards. If you make a map for U2k4, then it'll be rated a 0 in no time if you dont have:
    • Custom meshes
    • Custom Scripts
    • Custom Sounds
    • Custom Textures
    • Custom Music

If you don't have any of the above, its a newb map. For UT99, however, all you need is a :

Complex Mover Brush that you made yourself.

THATS IT! JUST A MOVER!!!! THEY WERE SOOO HARD AND SOOO FUN TO MAKE THAT THEY WERE THE STANDARD! :-(

also, ut2k4 has NO singleplayer, NO coop, NO INVENTORY SYSTEM, the weapons take 6 HOURS TO MAKE, and whereas in ut99, it just took 15 mins....

ok im done here, i have recently dedicated myself to modding for OldSkool Amp'd , i hope others follow in my footsteps...

Plz comment ...here.

Discussion

T1: Whatever happened to mapping for Slaughter? Weapons don't take 6 hours to make in UE2.5, they take 3 minutes. And UT2k4 has plenty of single player. It's called "BOTS". Inventory system? What was the most recent first person shooter I've seen that had one of those??? DXIW? And Alien Swarm is DIFFERENT kind of fun than UT99. I play both very often.

GTD-Carthage: My computer can play UT2k4 properly but can't mod as my specs can't handle it. UT shows a different approach in "style" as well as UT2k4. I'm forever gonna be a UT99-man.

El Muerte: the inventory system is still pretty much in tact in UT2004, it's just not really used.
