STROKE AND TURN JUDGES

GENERAL RULES


STROKE JUDGES

1. Shall operate on both sides of the pool. A Stroke Judge should confer with his opposite number or the Referee in doubtful cases.

2. Shall inspect the techniques of the competitors, note infractions and disquality offenders.

3. May also serve as a Turn Judge/Relay Take-over Judge.

4. Shall inform the Referee immediately of any disqualifications.

5. Within 15 minutes, shall infrom the competitor or the coach of the disqualification, giving the reasons.

6. Shall notify the Recorders and Chief Place Judge of any disqualification-- usually by writing across the time card indicating the season. Times are always recorded on the card, even if the competitor has been disqualified. It is helpufl to note on the card the time at which the DQ occurred.

TURN JUDGES

1. Shall observe the swimmers
  • during the "touch", commencing with the beginning of the last arm stroke of the approach to the wall on a turn, and druing the "push-off" through to the completion of the first stroke following the departure from the wall;
  • from the backstroke flags to the wall and back to the flags.

2. Should be stationed in the assigned lane(s) above the swimmer. This is especially important in a backstroke race.

3. May be assigned the extra duty of judging relay take-overs.

4. Disqualify atheletes as specified above for stroke judges.
