Job ke Fundae

EES recently organised “Job Ke fundae” which was a great success. Speakers who had been placed in top- notch companies like BCG, Bain, GS, WorldQuant, Tower Research, Samsung, Intel spoke about the long interview process which includes CV shortlisting, GD sessions, coding tests and long rounds of face-to-face interviews. They also discussed about the type of work and gave some worthy tips to the students who will be sitting for placements. We thank all our speakers for taking out some precious time from their busy schedules and guiding their juniors for a better future.
Those who missed it, here is a short summary -

Kushal Sogani, Priyanshi Mishra, Anirban Mukhopadhyay: BCG. Arushi Jain- Bain
• What is Consulting and why you should go for it?
- Different problems of private and public sector are given. Need to analyse the problem and come up with a solution.
- Not a desk job. If not interested in tech or higher studies definitely go for it. • Choose wisely which company suits you based on your work in 4 years.
• Department not important.
• Skills like communication, problem solving, leadership, dressing sense etc are required.
• 30 students are shortlisted from applicants. Shortlisting on 4 major areas. Scholastic Achievement, POR, Extra currics, Internship. 3 out of 4 sections should be good.
• Buddies are assigned who take informal talks on weekends. Need to have structured solution
• Practise a lot of case studies.

Akshit Tyagi: Tower Research
• Two profiles: Statistics and Core. CG requirement. >=8.5
• Takes people from CSE, Electrical and Maths
• Test has questions on O.S, Parallel Programming, Database
• Practice coding by solving problems given at www.leetcode.com
• Books to read: Heard on the Street for Wall Street basics. Fifty Challenging Problems in Probability. Utilise summer break for reading.
• EE people should take courses like O.S, Parallel Programming, COP290( for improving coding skills) , DBMS.
• Revise MTL106(especially stochastic processes) and COL106. Questions on ML and Communication could be asked in interview.
• Should be able to code in both C++ and Python. Pointers are important. Difference between C++11 and C++14. Basic knowledge of System Engineer.

Manish Singh and Ritik Vijayvergiya: WorldQuant.
• Less employees. Only 50 in India.
• Similar to tower research. CG>=9 for EE students and >=8.5 for CS.f school ones.
• Revise MTL106, basic 11 12 maths, probability
• Follow www.cseblog.com. Read Investopedia for basic information on stocks.
• No algorithmic questions were asked. Simple coding output question can be asked.
• Finance background not required.

Abhijeet Chordia: Goldman Sachs
• 2 profiles: Tech and Stats.
• Test consists of 3 sections: Coding, ML, probability(11th 12th).
• For financial interns, basic knowledge of finance and economics is needed.
• Many rounds of interview: 1-ML, 2- Probability, 3 and 4- Advanced Probability. 5 and 6- Puzzle(Code based Solution).
• No knowledge on finance is as such required.

Shivam Asati: Intel
• Core companies that come for placements are Qualcomm, TI, GE, Intel. ISRO, IES and GATE can also be given.
• Basics should be clear. Digital Electronics, Circuit Theory, Analog are some few important courses to revise.
• CG>=7 is required.
• No test was conducted. Directly interview.

Shaurya Shankar: Samsung Noida.
• Standard questions on algorithms, data structure etc.
• Extra currics not that important for technical profiles
• Even if you clear samsung Banglore test, you can sit for Samsung Noida.
• 2-3 tech interviews and 1 HR interview.
