EAW Sharpen is a filter which sharpens an image without annoying halos.
It's based on Mikes Python plugin:

More info about the algorithm from Raanan Fattal:
http://www.cs.huji.ac.il/~raananf/projects/eaw/index.html

To install the plugin, download and unzip the attachment, and type "make".
You will find the plugin then under Filters -> Enhance -> EAW Sharpen.

NEW FOR WIN USERS: I compiled a version for Windows, which can be downloaded here:
http://sites.google.com/site/elsamuko/gimp/eaw-sharpen
Download the file elsamuko-eaw-sharpen-w32.zip, unzip it and copy elsamuko-eaw-sharpen.exe into %userprofile%\.gimp-2.6\plug-ins.

If you like it, hug someone :D

In the example image a strong sharpening has been applied with GIMP's Unsharp Mask and with EAW:

As a new Linux user, I'm afraid your installation instructions don't mean anything to me:

'To install the plugin, download and unzip the attachment, and type "make".'

Unzip to where? Run make how? With what parameters? Just downloading and unzipping in my Downloads folder and running 'make' doesn't do anything.

It seems not to work on windows, so I made something for windows ;-)
