This script automates creating simple textures, using solid noise/emboss. Easily create paper-like textures or more coarse gravel-like ones.
The texture appears on it's own layer. You can adjust opacity, layer mode, and various other settings beforehand, and you can also see a preview of how it will look.
The plugin is coded for 2.6. I haven't tried it on 2.7.
Comments & feedback are welcome.
NOTE!!
When you download the script, rename it so that you change the extension from ".py.txt" to ".py", otherwise it will not work.
Update history:
Version 1.3:
- Ported to GTK, which allows a new interface & preview function.
- Opacity setting added.
Version 1.1:
- The texture is now created to image size, and masked with the current selection. This way, if you change the shape of the object later, you can easily adjust the texture's shape to it. The script takes slightly longer to run because of this, but I think it's a fair trade-off.
- New functionality added: additional noise, pre-emboss blur, and layer mode selection.
-- Example screenshots:
upper is a beveled text.
lower is the same beveled text with a texture added, the texture is set to soft light.

Usage
You might want to give users an idea of how you use this: mini-tutorial with some screenshots, perhaps?

I'll do that when I have the time...
ok done

Nice
Nice work. Also, thanks for advertising my scripts ;)
Just to let you know, I'm planning an update for this script... I'd like to make it so that it automatically creates the texture in the size of the image and then automatically alpha-masks it with the current selection, rather than just making the texture in the shape of the selection... This way, you could always edit the shape of the texture later by changing the mask, and you wouldn't have to redo the texture if you change the text or whatever object you texturize.
Updates are Cool
You're welcome. I also advertised my website in the process. ;)
The mask feature is great. Love it. Both scripts are a lot of fun to play with. I'm enjoying myself.

merci
This is a script that combines many functions of already existing plugins but gives effectively and quickly a very good result. It's a little bit of a script for the lazy Gimpers ;) J'aime, merci.
