Why have nearly all the image save types been removed from the save file as options list?

Well the question seemed pretty self explanatory. One the older versions of gimp when you used the "save file as " feature you were given a very thorough list of possible file formats. Which for the record, I always thought was awesome. But I Installed the latest version and there are only 4 or 5 formats to choose from and all seemed Gimp specific. So my question is simply why did you remove the formats that most of us use everyday? Such as .jpg .bmp or .tga's cause unless there are plugins for them now. You have basically rendered your application useless to me..

Must now use File>>Export

You must now use File>>Export to save .jpg,.png etc
