EASY QUESTION: Can someone PLEASE help me divide scanned images via GIMP? Simple Step By Step PLEASE...THANKS!!!

PLEASE READ THIS AND HELP ME IF YOU CAN

I have thousands of 3x5 inch index cards that I need to scan into my p.c., I need to be able to divide or split ONE scanned image into multiple images/files (the index cards are UNRULED/BLANK and primarily have handwritten notes on them, others vary.

For example if I lay 4 separate index cards on my scanner bed, then scan to my pc, then I have ONE document, but I need to be able to create FOUR documents/files; and then be able to drag and drop the four SEPARATE cards into folders that I create for organizing and prioritization purposes. (All of this is likely similar to someone trying to do the same thing with 4 photos).

MY COMPUTER is older, running XP Home, and am not a Linux etc user, I'm just a beginner with GIMP too.

WHAT I NEED........Is for someone ANYONE to accomplish what I'm trying to do ONE TIME, then tell me HOW THEY DID IT. This would be the fastest solution I guess.

I WAS TOLD...To use a plug in for GIMP called "Divide Scanned Image", BUT before I get started I was hoping for some feedback and counsel before I attempt this on my own. ARE THERE OTHER SOLUTIONS FOR ME, I NEED THIS TO GO AS FAST AS POSSIBLE, THIS SCANNING PROJECT?

PLEASE HELP ME.....

Respectfully & Appreciatively Yours,

Thanks Evilsson,

The scanner I'm using is an all in one scanner/printer/copier by H.P. Photosmart C4480 about 3 years old I guess.

Over on GimpTalk someone suggested the same thing as you have scan one image at a time.

A few weeks ago H.P. software had an update and I haven't been able to find or use the software ever since, but my pc does recognise and I can scan, but I think it's through Microsoft Scanner and camera wizare I THINK.

I'm heading over to GimpTalk I have a lot of response to my post over there I haven't read yet.

Thank for you input and please continue if you have anything else for me.

Thanks,

Scanner brand?

I would not try it first with Gimp. Most scanners come with a software that is able to pick multiple images from the scanner and tilt them straight before saving. So what I suggest, is to first read the manual of your Scanner. Which brand and model is it by the way?
If they are all same size, there is no need to scan multiple at once. You get them probably faster one by one. You only configure settings, name and the crop area for the first one, scan, place another, hit scan, place next, hit scan. This can be done without previewing, so it is fast. That´s how I´ve done it with multiple documents. And they go to same pre-configured folder and are automatically named scan001, scan002 etc. The sorting is easier to do after scanning all the images I think. Maybe with IrfanView or a batch file, drag and drop would take some time if You have thousands of images.
