National Alumni Council/National Pre-Alumni Council

Facts About The
National Pre-Alumni Council and Pre-Alumni Councils

Twelve years after the formation of the National Alumni Council, Dr. Walter Washington, President Emeritus, Alcorn State University and an alumnus of Tougaloo College founded the National Pre-Alumni Council in 1958.

The NPAC was created to stimulate interest and participation of students in the programs of the United Negro College Fund, to preserve and to further loyalty and fellowship between the member colleges and universities, assist in raising funds during the annual campaign and help them become better alumni while in school and upon graduation.

The National Pre-Alumni Council is the governing body for the Pre-Alumni Councils located on UNCF’s member college and universities campuses. The NPAC officers are elected annually during the NAC/NPAC Conference.

The elected NPAC President, Pre-Alumni Council Advisor and Miss National UNCF are members of the National Alumni Council Board of Directors during their tenure. They attend the NAC Board meetings and the NPAC President and PAC Advisor have voting privileges.

NATIONAL PRE-ALUMNI CREED

I believe in the member colleges and universities of the United Negro College Fund and for what they stand for individually and collectively.

I believe that they should always exist and should always further the cause of higher education among historically black colleges and universities.

I believe that these colleges form a legacy ever devoted to the high ideals for which they were grounded and that the pre-alumni council should promulgate not only the tenets of higher education but should promote the highest in race relations as well.

I believe that I should pledge my continuing interest and support to NPAC and UNCF.

I shall always work to keep the Torch aglow as I become an alumnus (a) of a member institution.

It shall be my intent to always foster and inculcate loyalty and devotion to my respective alma mater, National Alumni Council and The United Negro College Fund.
