1999 Male Scholarship Awardee Clarence D. Smith was a senior majoring in English at Philander Smith College when received the NAC 1999 Male Scholarship award. During his final year at Philander Smith College, he had a grade point average of 3.85. He was president of the senior class, Male Resident Assistant, Mentor for the freshman and an English/Math tutor.

He was also a member of the U.S. Army Reserves, Academic Advisory Committee and choral Assistant for Philander Smith College Collegiate Choir. His ultimate career goal is to earn a Ph.D. in English and then to teach at a historically black college or university where he will ensure that African Americans realize the value of an education and the importance of supporting their alma maters and The College Fund.

Today, Mr. Smith is well on his way, attending graduate school at Florida State University.
