Result #2: Student Academic Development. On-site technical assistance will be
provided for developing, piloting, administering, and adopting a Student Assessment Test
(SAT), and for conducting a workshop to train staff in its use. On-site technical
assistance will also be provided to assist the HDIs with the development of Five-Year
Student Development Plans covering student policies and procedures; norms for mental and
physical health; enrollment management policies; and the assessment, enhancement, or
creation of bridging programs.
Campus-based enrichment seminars will be provided for students at each of the 15 HDIs
during years one and two. Annual student research internships and a Work Study Program
(modeled after the successful work-study program developed by The Desmond Tutu Educational
Trust) will also be supported. In addition, student leadership conferences and workshops,
focusing on conflict and financial management, will be scheduled at both the national and
regional levels.
Result #3: Management and Administrative Development. UNCF will identify experts
to conduct HDI-specific planning needs assessments in collaboration with institutional
staff, a national week-long intensive training workshop for planners, and three
task-oriented two-day workshops over a six-month period. Two regional workshops for
administrative staff, and training in information management will be available in years
one through three, along with on-site technical assistance to support the development and
adoption of Three-Year Institutional Rolling Plans. Staff Development Centers will be
enhanced or created at each HDI and research training and staff research internships will
be organized to promote the development of a research culture. As a contribution to gender
equity, 15 gender sensitivity workshops will be conducted annually and a Gender Mentoring
Program will be established at each institution.
