The Unidentified Flying Raw (UFRaw) is a plug-in to read and manipulate raw images from digital cameras and to load them into the Gimp. UFRaw reads raw images using Dave Coffin's raw conversion utility - DCRaw. UFRaw supports color management workflow based on Little CMS, allowing the user to apply ICC color profiles.

UFRAW on Gimp 2.7.3
I am trying out the Windows version of Gimp 2.7.3 compiled by Partha (http://www.partha.com/) and wanted to use Ufraw to develop my Canon CR2 files, so I installed the latest version (0.18) downloaded from the Ufraw homepage, accepting the default location (C:\Program Files\UFRaw).
Here are the steps needed to get it working (on Windows XP SP3 - some of the paths will be slightly different in Win7):
1. Ufraw expects Gimp to provide some DLLs, but Gimp 2.7.3 uses later versions. I found it needed jpeg62.dll and libpng12-0.dll which have been superseded in 2.7.3. I downloaded these (http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/downlinks/jpeg-bin-zip.php - just extract jpeg62.dll from the zip; http://ufraw.sourceforge.net/Install/libpng12-0.dll) and popped them in C:\Program Files\UFRaw\bin. You could also get them from an existing installation of Gimp 2.6. With these in place, I could run the standalone ufraw.exe successfully.
2. I moved C:\Program Files\UFRaw\lib\gimp\2.0\plugins\ufraw-gimp.exe to C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\.gimp-2.7\plug-ins
3. I added "C:\Program Files\UFRaw\bin" to my PATH environment variableso that the plugin can find the DLLs. To do this: right-click the "My computer" icon on your desktop - select Properties - Advanced - click [Environment Variables] button - select "Path" in the System variables section and press [Edit] - add ";C:\Program Files\UFRaw\bin" to the end of the string - then click [OK] to close each of the three dialogs.
I can now drop a CR2 file on to Gimp and Ufraw will open and load the file as expected. Clicking the [OK] button in Ufraw processes the file and hands the resulting image to Gimp as expected, but produces a warning message:
WARNING: Plug-In "ufraw-gimp.exe"
Called deprecated procedure 'gimp-image-add-layer'.
It should call 'gimp-image-insert-layer'.
Click [OK] in the message box and everything works fine.
lcms not found
hi folks!
when I run ./configure, it throw this message:
checking for LCMS... configure: error: Package requirements (lcms >= 1.14) were not met:
No package 'lcms' found
Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.
Alternatively, you may set the environment variables LCMS_CFLAGS
and LCMS_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.

what's it that lcms?
in my distro repository (ubuntu) there isn't (i guess it's not a linux lib or something like that)

Windows 7 x64
Installed on Windows 7 x64.
Trying to run UFRaw - it returns error - 'Can't run application due to libgdk-win32-2.0-0.dll is absent. Pls re-install application'.
Anyone know how to solve the issue? UFRaw is available as plugin for GIMP for Windows?

Installing UFRaw on Win 7
Hello,
I've had the same trouble to night before reading your post. Missing dll's (the one you name is only the first one!).
All the missing dll's were already present in the Gimp directories I had previously installed. I had to copy them from program files\gimp2\bin\xx.dll to program files\ufraw\bin\xx.dll
It now works but I still can't see my NEF files (Nikon Raw) from the Gimp (means UFRaw not correctly installed as a plugin of Gimp). Conversly, I can open NEF files using UFRaw and then transfer them to Gimp (means UFRaw works as stand alone). If ever you have a precise protocol for installing UFRaw as a plugin, I will be delighted if you can forward it to me!

Personally i prefer Rawtherapee (not a plugin but a standalone that may send images to gimp or other editor) that handle well my NEF file
Anyway even the free Picasa (from Google) may open and convert NEF

It looks like an ICC input
It looks like an ICC input profile error. Did you try without profile? Some camera profiles can cause such color balance errors. The interface of UFRaw is not as convenient as I would like it to be, but it is a good utility, indeed!
