Overview

The hybrid marine drill floor addresses performance and green power issues through the use of an intermediate power storage system that is able to absorb and deliver energy at a rate faster than conventional processes can use or return energy.The hybrid marine drill floor removes cyclical loading from the diesel generator and applies it to the Active Power Compensation unit. The diesel generator delivers an output that is continuously closer to the average power consumed. Consequently, there is no need to have a "spinning reserve". The diesel can be operated continuously at close to its rated output without compromising the process performance, which will continue to consume power in a cyclical manner as required to efficiently perform the drilling process. As a result, the number of diesel generators connected to the bus can be reduced.
