- UNCF/Department
of Environmental Education Programs (DEEP) - This program is
designed to enhance and strengthen the capabilities of its
member institutions to participate as key players in all aspects
of environmental education and environmental justice research.
DEEP's Program for Environmental Justice Education and Research
(PEJER), established through a $3 million grant from the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), provides $32,000 for each
of three years to 12, competitively selected colleges and
universities to undertake curriculum development, faculty
development, and community involvement projects. The
Environmental Careers Awareness Program (ECAP), funded through a
five-year Waste Management Technologies (WMX) grant, encourages
environmental projects which establish partnerships between UNCF
institutions and WMX's subsidiary Waste Management Inc.'s
divisions that focus on two programs areas: (1) curriculum
development, and (2) student internships for juniors and seniors
from a range of academic disciplines. UNCF and the Department of
Energy (DOE) have initiated a one-year model program entitled
Building Environmental Justice Collaborations (BEJC). DOE is
providing $225,000 for the program to coordinate the
participation of seven UNCF colleges and universities in the
development of environmental justice initiatives with its
Savannah River Operations Office in Aiken, South Carolina.
- UNCF Institute
for International Public Policy (IIPP) - The Institute for
International Public Policy (IIPP) was established by the United
Negro College Fund, Inc. in 1994 with a multi-year grant from
the U.S. Department of Education. It represents a direct
response to the identified national need to create a diverse
talent pool of well-trained and language-proficient
internationalists. The IIPP mission is to increase the number of
underrepresented minorities in international service careers,
including the U.S. Foreign Service, through policy institutes,
study abroad, language training, internships, graduate
fellowship assistance and institutional resource development
grants.
For
more information on the IIPP Fellowship Program, please contact
the IIPP administrative office via telephone at (703) 205-3462

- UNCF Technology
Access Project (TAP) - Addesses the problem of limited
access to the "information superhighway" by
historically black colleges and universitites. With more than
10,000 students, faculty and administrators as its
beneficiaries, TAP ensures at least a basic proficiency in
Internet use. The main focus is not the technology itself,
but the application of the technology in the form of continuous
training and Internet application development.
