Student Recruitment

UNCF assists member colleges in student recruitment efforts. As a consortium, UNCF is able to reach a larger and more geographically diverse pool of prospective students than can most of the individual colleges operating on their own. Consequently, UNCF provides direct services to its member colleges by helping to inform students about private, historically black colleges and universities.

  • College Fairs - This activity is an important recruitment tool for member colleges. Each year, at least six fairs are held around the country to spread the word about UNCF colleges. These are the only college fairs in the United States that focus specifically on private, historically black colleges and universities. More than 5,000 high school students participate in the UNCF College Fairs annually. Grants from the GE Foundation, the Cleveland Foundation, the George Gund Foundation and Ronald McDonald's Children's Charities support the fairs.
  • College Tours - This program is designed for high school students in the 10th, 11th and 12th grade. The students not only view the campuses, but also speak to faculty, staff and students about admission requirements, special programs, and the social life at UNCF institutions. Students from Philadelphia and Central, Pa., Wilmington, Del. and New York City have participated in recent tours.
  • College Guide - UNCF publishes and distributes a College Guide that highlights academic programs, degree offerings, and historical backgrounds on each of the 41 UNCF member colleges and universities. Support from the GE Foundation helps to underwrite the College Guide.
