Q & A

Your feedback helps us to identify topics that need to be clarified or corrected. Here are a few comments and questions we have received recently that might interest you:

Q: How can I go up to the main menu?—Japan (M2 EE)
A: The main menu is at the top of every page with the following options: Getting Started, Products, Marketing, Content, Customers, Sales, Reports, Operations, and Reference. If you click the each of these options, you’ll find a table of contents for the section. The mini TOC in the shaded gray box lists any additional “child” pages related to the current page. There’s a Next link in the upper-right corner of every page, that you can use to page through the content in sequence. You can also use the “jump lists,” which have thumbnail illustrations, links, and a brief descriptions, as “jumping off” places to related topics.

Q: Where do I enter the Google AdWords conversion script? United States (M2 EE)
A: To complete the configuration, simply copy the settings from your AdWords script to your Magento store's Google AdWords configuration. Magento uses the information from the configuration to track conversions from the "Success" page that appears after each sale. It is not necessary to copy your Google  AdWords script to the "Success" page of your store, because Magento already has the information.

Q: Define the word Ogone as there is ZERO reference as to what that word means. —United States (M1 EE)
A: Ogone is a European payment solution, and is described on the Payment Gateways page under Integrated Solutions. I’ll also add a link to the Order Status page to explain the references.

Q: Why to compile? —Mexico (M1 CE)
A: The compilation process can improve the performance of a Magento 1.x installation by combining separate include files from various modules into a single file. Before compiling an installation, the following file on the server must be writable:  /var/www/html/magento1/latest_ce/includes/config.php. To make changes to a compiled store, you must first disable the compiler. Then after making the necessary changes, enable the compiler, and run the compilation process again.

Magento 2.x has a different architecture, and the code compiler is not available from the Admin.

Q: There's no section on Website Restrictions which should be in the Store configuration in the General Tab. —United States (M2 CE)
A: You can find Website Restrictions in the user guide under Developer Client Restrictions (Operations > System > Tools> Developer Tools) and in the Configuration Reference under Advanced > Developer > Developer Client Restrictions.

Q: This page (Disabled Modules Output) is just a list of settings. It doesn't explain what each of them does .—United Kingdom (M2 CE)
A: The user guide doesn't go into detail about technical subjects. For introductory information about Magento modules, see Module Overview in the developer documentation.

Q: On Table Rates page it says "must provide a valid 3-letter code for country." You folk need to provide a list of these 3-letter codes somewhere and a link to it. —Australia (M1 EE)
A: Thanks for the suggestion! We added a link to a Wikipedia article with a list of the current codes from Aruba to Zimbabwe.

Q: There is no Delete Attribute button. —United States (M1 CE)
A: To see the Delete Attribute button, you must first open the attribute in edit mode. It’s in the upper-right next to the Save Attribute button.

Q: I am trying to find the template for .csv file to upload, but this page provides no clue. —United Kingdom (M1 EE)
A: To ensure that the column headings can be read by Magento, we recommend that you first export the data from your store as a CSV file. The exported file is your template. To learn more about product and customer CSV files, see: Working with CSV Files.

Q: There doesn't seem to be an individual setup configuration for checkout, only Checkout Option. —United States (M1 EE)
A: There are actually quite a few checkout-related configuration settings. The best place to start is at the beginning of the Checkout section. You can configure the Checkout Method, Terms and Conditions, One Page Checkout, Checkout Totals Sort Order, and Gift Options.
